Ministry PUPR Push Earthquake Resistant Buildings

                            

JAKARTA – Construction of residential buildings and is expected to use the latest technology earthquake resistant. This is to prevent damage and accidents when the earthquake occurred. Therefore, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has implemented the construction of earthquake-resistant houses since 2011.

“We have to build earthquake-resistant houses, for example for the Tsunami victims in Aceh in 2011. The house is earthquake resistant concept is designed so that it can withstand potential earthquakes that moves horizontally. The structure must be strong and follow certain standards that have been set, “said the Head of Research and Development Ministry PUPR Danis Sumadilaga when contacted Investor Daily from Jakarta, Wednesday (7/12).

Danis said PUPR Ministry and related institutions have devised an earthquake hazard maps and published in 2010. The map, a reference basis for earthquake-resistant buildings, including residential and commercial buildings.

In addition, said Danis, creating buildings should take into account the topography of the region. Some areas in Indonesia have diwasapadai as areas prone to natural disasters including earthquakes.

“There are certain limits that should be building strength we know. So it can be distinguished when building in areas of potential earthquakes, “he said.

Danis said the implementation of technology in building earthquake resistant homes and buildings should not entailing excessive cost. The most important thing, Danis said, is to use the appropriate materials and taking into account the structure of the building to the right.

“To build these do not always have to be expensive. So we also continue to socialize, so developers and communities can apply when the building, “he said.

He also said that, should the homes and buildings in Indonesia was built in accordance with the Building Act No.28 / 2002.
